News From TheEdge Daily:
Proton Holdings Bhd will be reducing its car prices across the board by at least 2% to 5% by next week, said its managing director Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir.
Speaking to reporters at Invest Malaysia 2006 in KL on March 24, he said the national automotive policy was very clear in its targets and Proton was responding to it.
Syed Zainal said it was imperative that Proton had the right mix of products and improved customer service to enhance its market share.
To a question, he said Proton was prepared not to be protected by the government over the long run. “We cannot be a national car forever,” he said.

“Whatever gains we reap from the new tax structure will be passed on to the consumers.
“Industry players are willing to lower their prices,” Aishah toldBusiness Times yesterday.
She added that basically, passenger cars produced in the region will almost immediately see a price cut.
Consumers may have to wait a little while for the new prices to come into effect, Aishah said, as players need to properly compute the possible changes from the new duty structure.
Does this mean The time we can afford cheaper imported car has arrived? I wonder after this NAP will proton or perodua car sales going to drop? But for sure both car manufacturers price going to come down else how they going to compete with other car manufacturers?
