Mini Concept Detroit unveiled

After the Mini Concept Tokyo, Mini company has unveiled the Concept Detroit, another re-interpretation of the Mini Traveller.This time the prototype will be followed by a production vehicle, as announced during the 2006 Detroit Motor Show.

Thanks to innovative roof carriers and cargo box systems that offer additional storage space, the Mini Concept Detroit combines sporting performances and look with a flexible use of space. .
This design study celebrates the 100th birthday of Sir Alec Issigonis, the inventor of Mini, born in 1906 from a Greek father and a German mother. The Concept Detroit has a high-technology look achieved with a the special Satellite Silver Metallic Colour and Neoprene Contours.

The Mini Concept Detroit features an adjustable Cargobox in the luggage compartment with its loading cover moving out to the rear for convenient loading at all times. Another convenient feature is the transÂparent cover on the Cargobox moving up and thus serving as a partition betÂween the passenger area and the luggage compartment. The rear secÂtion of the roof opens up just as conveniently for easy loading.

The “Floating Elements†concept offers a surprisingly generous and open impression right from the start when the driver and passengers get into the car. The interior features the suspended in position seats, the free-hovering dashboard with its Center Speedometer, and a revolving central dashÂboard with both a digital and analogue display. The front seats can be swivelling to the side for easy and convenient access to the rear. When it tilted down, the rear seats form a flat surface flush with the floor of the luggage compartment.

Alexander Arnold Constantine Issigonis was born on 18 November 1906 as the son of a Greek father and a German mother in a region which now belongs to Turkey. He moved to London for his schooling and technical studies, later becoming one of the most successful English car designers and automotive engineers. Now, they are celebrating the 100th birthday of Sir Alec Issigonis, the Inventor of Mini.
