Petronas sign up with BMW

Malaysian national oil and gas company Petronas will be BMW Sauber’s main sponsor for the next four years, the Formula One team said on Thursday.
BMW have split with Williams and taken over the Swiss-based Sauber team, who have been backed by Petronas for the last decade.

Two strong partners formally forge an alliance: PETRONAS is to be the premium partner of the new BMW Sauber F1 Team that is gearing up for its debut in the 2006 Formula One World Championship. Today, Thursday, a four-year contract was signed and sealed in Kuala Lumpur, confirming PETRONAS as the main sponsor through to and including season 2009.

“We are building on a long-standing association between Petronas and the previous Sauber team,” said BMW motorsport director Mario Theissen in a statement after signing a contract in Kuala Lumpur.

“Petronas is a major player above all in Asia, which is a very significant growth area for BMW too.”

The new BMW Sauber team will make its debut next year with Germany’s Nick Heidfeld as one of their drivers. Canadian former champion Jacques Villeneuve has a year remaining on his Sauber contract but has yet to be confirmed by BMW.

Proton Free Rides?

November 16th, 2005 at 01:49pm frances Category : Auto News, Malaysia

This news is not only about Proton, it is about Proton and our news media. An audition in Proton has recently revealed that, there are 70 cars provided by Proton to individual and news media for feedback on its weeknesses and strength. What being concerned here is that, whether such move will destroyed the integrity of our news media to report fair and trustworthy news to the public. As you might know, the write-ups in trade magazines and newspapers are considered invaluable “free marketing” to the any company. So, be ‘open’ minded when you read any piece of news. Make wise choice by researching in more resources.
