What is A1 Grand Prix?
A1 Grand Prix is an international racing series being held during the Northern Hemisphere winter off-season of the FIA Formula 1 grand prix series. It has been sanctioned by the FIA and has been designed so that each team will represent their country of origin, making A1 Grand Prix a true world championship.Currently there are 25 country participating in the Competition.
Who’s the Founder?
The series was founded and created by 28-year-old Sheikh Maktoum Hasher Maktoum Al Maktoum, a member of the Royal Family of Dubai. He has also assumed the position of Chief Executive Officer of the series.
What’s the different between F1 and A1?
A1 Grand Prix features identical single-seater cars which do not have the ultra-expensive and sophisticated driver aids which are part of today’s F1 machines, meaning that the drivers have to rely on their ability rather than a superior car. As the championship is for countries, it will not have two championships each year like F1, one for drivers and the other for constructors of the cars.
All cars use a Lola built chassis with 3.4 litre capacity V8 engines built by Zytek Engineering who specialise in high perfomance powerplants. The chassis weighs approximately 600 kg (1322 lbs).
The engine has a power output of 390 kW, (520 bhp). All cars have Cooper Avon tyres which are 370/660R13 Cooper A1 racing slicks fitted to 16-inch racing rims and operating at 90 °C (194 °F).
What about Team Malaysia?
Malaysia first F1 Driver Alex Yoong, and Fairuz Fauzy will compete in the A1 Grand Prix.
