New National Automotive Policy Finally Out

Highlight of the New NAP:

TAX DUTY:

Introduce the Tax on Tax:
The method of calculating excise duty on Completely Built Up (CBU) vehicles is changed to a ‘tax on tax’ basis. Previously, the excise duty was applied on the CIF (Cost, insurance, and freight) value of CBU vehicles. Under the ‘tax on tax’ basis, the excise duty will now be applied on the CIF value including import duties.

a.)Import duties on Asean CBU vehicles will be reduced to 15 % from 20 % and that on non-Asean CBUs, to 30 % from 50 %.

b.)0 % to import duties on Asean CKD (Completely Knocked Down) passenger cars and 10 % on non-Asean CKD remained unchanged.

c.)Excise duties on passenger cars have been reduced to 80-100 % from 90-250 % and for 4WDs to 55-160 %from 60-170 %.

d.)Excise duties on motorcycles were reduced to 20-50% from 20-60% while for CKD/CBU MPVs (Asean and non-Asean), the duties have been raised to 55-160% from 40-170%.

e.)Exercise Duty on 1800 to 2000CC vehicles,reduce from 164% to 153%。

Related To AP:
a.)To freeze issuance of franchise APs for importation of new vehicle brands.

b.)To discontinue franchise APs awarded for importation of ‘tunedup’ vehicles, with effect from
1 January 2006

c.)To allow Bumiputera-controlled Public Limited Companies (PLCs) to apply directly for APs

d.)To limit the importation of used vehicles through Open APs to that between the ages of 1 to 5 years only

Ford debuts Equator concept in Tokyo

Ford company officially debuts the Equator concept, the second showcar developed by Ford’s Asia Pacific and Africa design team (the first was the Ford Focus Concept that debuted at the 2004 Beijing Auto Show).

Daihatsu at the 39th Tokyo Motor Show

Here are some of the Daihatsu cars that will showing in the 39th Tokyo Motor Show.

The Daihatsu Esse Concept. Its name is derive from the word Essence. This K-car is powered by a new 660 cc engine.

The UFE-III Concept. The first UFE (Ultra Fuel Economy) hybrid was exhibited in 2001. The latest version is able to travelling 72km with one liter of fuel. The 440 kg showcar with a Cd value of just 0.168 is powered by a 3-cylinder 660 cc engine coupled with two electromotors.
