Wednesday, the Cabinet agreed to the proposal to raise the minimum age for motorcyclist from 16 to 17, and to immediately suspend a driver’s licence upon committing seven serious traffic offences.
Among the serious offences could lead to the 14-day suspension of a driver’s license are the following:
. Driving in a reckless or dangerous manner to the extent of causing death.
. Beating the traffic light.(no suspension)
. Driving in a careless and inconsiderate manner.
. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
. Driving or in-control of a motor vehicle while the alcohol level in the blood system exceeded the permitted level.
. Driving in excess of 40km/h above the speed limit
(all offences involved both the motorists and motorcyclists)
I totally agree with the moved of the goverment to take stern action on those offended driver. But on the other side, why reduced the summon that needs to be paid by them? No point isn’t it? So, traffic offended can have discount, don’t you think so?

The Jelutong Expressway accident on Sunday, where three policemen manning a road block, three passengers in the car including the driver and a motorcyclist were killed.
After Inspection by Puspakom, the car was identify as a “kereta potong” (car welded from cannibalised parts), three of the four brake pads on the Proton Wira that crashed into a police road block were worn out.
“According to Puspakom, three brake pads were worn out and this might have caused the driver to lose control of the car after he braked suddenly while driving at high speed” (according to the newspaper report, the only survivor of the car said they were shocked when suddenly saw the police roadblock, so the driver pressed the emergency brake, then lose control of the car…) Why the police hold the roadblock in that place?

The Jelutong Expressway where the accident occured, noticed there is no steel bar guard along the road side. image from sinchew malaysia
Until today, 19 people had so far died in the accidents along the 4.7km road since its opening two years ago. ( does it mean that this is the safety defect of the road ?)
So, WHO brought up such tradegy? The car dealer who sold the Kereta Potong to the driver? The Road Authority who doesn’t build road safely? The police that holds the roadblock in the expressway or the speedy driver himself?
Just a piece of note, kereta potong is not safe to drive, it will kill you someday… Be extra careful when buying an used car especially it is too cheap compares to the market price…

Another APs beneficiaries name list has been release by International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Rafidah Aziz in a reply to opposition leader Lim Kit Siang who had wanted to know why there was a sudden increase in the number of APs awarded in 2004 and 2005. There is total of 337 MPs or ex-MPs from the Barisan Nasional as well as opposition parties, have received individual Approved Permits (APs) to import cars into the country.
Personally, I think the existence of AP policy is rather confusing. As far as I know, the purpose of this AP is to help bumiputras entrepreneur in venturing to car business and at the same time protecting our national cars. And suprisingly the statement below makes me puzzled:
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz said every citizen in the country is eligible to apply for an AP, and this includes MPs as well.
“It is not a privilege and everyone could apply for them, including students,” he said.
Does it mean that we as a public are eligible to apply for AP as well (If really so, I believe many of us will be delighted to apply 1 and buy our dream car at more affordable price)? And why individual AP exist in the first place? What’s the purpose of individual AP? Is it some kind of remuneration benefits received working as an MP? If so, doesn’t seems that all MPs received this…
