Nissan Unveils car to car crash laboratory

Japan’s Nissan Motor Co. unveiled on Wednesday a new research facility to perform car-to-car collision tests as part of its aim to develop safer vehicles and reduce fatalities and injuries for its users.

The 40,000 square-metre laboratory in Yokosuka, outside Tokyo, began operations this month and will also conduct tests simulating rollover accidents.The laboratory began operations this month, and also plans to simulate roll over crashes. Nissan has their eyes clearly set on safety leader Volvo. (Volvo cars have had a reputation for safety, the Volvo S80 is regarded by many to be the safest mass-produced car in the world).

The Nissan said that the laboratory is more advance that is rival Toyota , and Honda Test Site, as it can reproduce collisions over a wider range of angles in 5-degree increments, versus 15 degrees for its rivals.

In a demonstration of the collision test to the media, Nissan showed its Fuga luxury sedan and Tiida compact crashing into each other at 50 km (31 miles) an hour, leaving the front end of the Tiida smashed in but the cabin intact thanks to reinforcements in the door and body co-developed with Renault.

Proton Shares Plunged Low After Announced Loss of RM4.3mil

Proton share prices had plunged lower in the opening of trading market, down from 8.85 to 8.25, a total of 6.78% in today morning trade session. It was said to be probably cause of the announcement of red balance sheet on the day before yesterday.

On late tuesday, they had announced their first quarter results of a loss of RM4.3 million (pre-tax) from March to June 30. Compare to preceding quarter, Proton had recorded a pre-tax profit of RM165.5mil. They blamed its current poor performance on lower sales, rising component costs and higher allowances for doubtful debts.

Share close at 8.45 at the end of day.
